An example of infrared photo is when a lighthouse located on the shore can detect heat energy coming from the sea water, which then reflects it back to the lighthouse. This type of photography is commonly used to create still life or portraits. Others sub-genres under “infrared photography” are beach photography, seascape photography, mountain photography, coral reef photography and fish photography.

Documentary Photography. In order to qualify as a “durable” photograph, it needs to be able to stand the test of time for years, as well as being timeless in its purpose. A main article in the genre is photojournalism, which features interviews, images, or documentaries about events, people, or places. Other sub-genres under photojournalism include magazine and newspaper journalism, fashion photography, photojournalism, and wildlife photography.

Examples of commercial photography include wedding photography, which usually uses an amateurish photographer, as well as still-life photography that is usually done by highly-trained professionals.
